What are the new opportunities for AI within business aviation?

What are the new opportunities for AI within business aviation?

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the Collins ‘Word of the Year’ – which comes as no surprise as the technology increasingly dominates our personal and professional lives. London has even just played host to the first AI Safety Summit, where during a fireside chat between Elon Musk and UK Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, Musk stated that AI is “the most disruptive force in human history”.

However, AI isn’t a new notion and within aviation, airlines, MROs and other operators have been using the technology for fleet optimization, flight planning and ground operations for several years now. For example, aircraft manufacturers and service technicians use AI software and robots and chatbots to streamline assembly and maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) processes.

Airbus ACJ TwoTwenty Overview (2023)

Product Overview

The ACJ TwoTwenty (aka ACJ220) is the short-fuselage business jet version of the A220-100, a next-generation, highly fuel-efficient single-aisle twinjet airliner with seating for up to 135.

The ACJ TwoTwenty stands as an innovative and exceptional value proposition tailored to discerning business aviation buyers. This revolutionary aircraft introduces the capability to cover intercontinental distances, allowing up to 12 hours flight time. What truly sets it apart is the unparalleled personal space it offers, ensuring the utmost comfort for each passenger within its expansive 73 square meters (785 square feet) of floor space.

The aircraft presents an unrivalled proposition in the corporate aviation realm. Notably, this variant retains the remarkable intercontinental range, ideal for extended journeys. It’s also equipped with six generously proportioned VIP living areas, each spanning about 12 square meters (130 square feet), creating an environment of luxury and convenience that’s second to none in the industry. Remarkably, this exceptional aircraft maintains a competitive price point typically associated with ultra-long-range (ULR) business jets.

Brief History

The first ACJ TwoTwenty is being completed by Comlux in Indianapolis, Airbus’s authorized partner on the aircraft, for delivery next year. Airbus acquired the A220 program, formerly known as the CSeries, from Bombardier in two big bites in 2017 and 2020.

The aircraft first flew on 14 December 2021 before delivery to Comlux to be outfitted with a VIP cabin in Indianapolis.

Q&A with Mick Doohan

Q&A with Mick Doohan

Mick Doohan, President, Jetcraft Australia and New Zealand
Location: Gold Coast, Australia

What are your responsibilities within the global Jetcraft team?

My role within the team is based in Europe and Australia. I’ve been travelling around the world for the past 30 years and have gained a lot of contacts throughout, so wherever I can spread the Jetcraft wings, I’ll add value.

Describe a typical day or week in your role.

I never switch off, I’m 24/7. Whether that’s dealing with staff, clients, sales or within the Jetcraft team. For me, there’s not really one specific role or one specific day that is the same as another because I don’t know what the days going to bring. I just enjoy what I do and focus on getting the best outcome for the global team.

Describe the company culture at Jetcraft and what it means to you?

The culture is first class and that’s why I was drawn to the company. The leadership team are honored, they understand every facet of the business and what the clients’ needs are. I think that’s what makes Jetcraft different. It’s not about us, It’s about what’s best for the client. That’s what I like about the culture.

Getting to know the Fastest Sales Team in the World: Jack Doohan

Getting to know the Fastest Sales Team in the World: Jack Doohan

The next member of our Fastest Sales Team in the World is Jack Doohan. While Jack isn’t an official member of the Jetcraft sales team, he’s a Formula 2 driver for Virtuosi Racing and reserve driver for BWT Alpine Formula 1, and most importantly, a partner and friend of Jetcraft.

Can you introduce yourself, and your relationship with Jetcraft?

My name is Jack Doohan and I’m a Formula 2 driver for Virtuosi Racing, which is part of the Alpine Academy.  I’m also a reserve driver for the BWT Alpine Formula 1 team. I’m fortunate to have a personal partnership with Jetcraft. I appreciate their support, and I’m excited about our future together.

How long have you been racing for?

I come from a motorsport family and my dad, Mick Doohan (five-time MotoGP World Champion), certainly influenced my path, but racing has always been something I wanted to do. We have a kart track at our home in Australia, so I’ve been driving since I was three or four years old and racing since I was eight. For as long as I can remember, my world has revolved around both two and four wheels, so competing felt like a natural choice for me. Luckily, I took the safer route.

Did you always see yourself entering the racing world?

My life has always been about racing, I never really considered any other path, and I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t thinking about becoming a racing driver. That remains the case, even today. While I do have plans outside of racing in my distant future, my certainty in wanting to take this route and be the best that I can be has never wavered.
