Avionics Mandates Part 6: Living with Mandates

Avionics Mandates Part 6: Living with Mandates

AvBuyer Magazine, June 2015 by Ken Elliott

Helping you understand avionics advances and related requirements for equipage, Ken Elliot reviews aviation technologies within the NextGen/SESAR architecture, this month focusing on the installation aspects of avionics mandates.

With only 6.5% of the total US-based aircraft equipped for ADS-B, there is a significant need for installation capacity between now and January 2020, the deadline for ADS-B Out equipage. Clearly, the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) community will be hard pressed to fulfill the demand.

As a rough guide focusing on turbine business aircraft, Table A shows that each US MRO needs to complete an average of 4.7 aircraft per month between now and 2020 for everyone to meet that country’s deadline. (Note that MROs owning multiple locations have greater capacity to achieve the monthly quota.)

12 great ways to slow down the pace in New York City

12 great ways to slow down the pace in New York City

Even “The City that Never Sleeps” slows down every now and then. And it all starts with an easy landing at the Teterboro Airport.

From the Teterboro, NJ, airport (TEB), getting to New York City is easy as “big apple” pie. In fact, Midtown is just 12 miles away. A Port Authority of NY/NJ facility, Teterboro exists so private aircraft don’t have to contend with the congested JFG and LaGuardia airports. Here is a complete airport guide.

Six FBOs are available for even more convenience and smoother operations. You can leverage an FBO to arrange your ground transportation to the City. Alternatively, on-demand car services are available as well.  GroundLink, for example, assures on-time pickup via app scheduling.

Chances are high that you’re breezing through Midtown for a packed day of meetings. Consider adding a day, or even a weekend, to your business trip to seize the best of the summer. Here are 12 ways to enjoy a slower pace in this action-packed city.

Bright Spots for European Business Aviation Sector

Bright Spots for European Business Aviation Sector

Commentary by Scott Plumb, Jetcraft's former Senior Vice President of Sales

[email protected]

Last week’s European Business Aviation Conference and Exhibition (EBACE) was a major event and helped put the spotlight on the European sector of our industry. For the last few years, Europe has remained more or less stagnant, with only slight growth reported overall. However, there are some bright skies ahead for the continent.

First, it helps to remember that the European fleet is indeed growing. In 2001, Europe held 1,517 aircraft according to the European Business Aviation Association (EBAA). As of 2014 this number had more than doubled to 3,301 aircraft. So growth is occurring, though slower than perhaps the industry would like.

Europe remains the world’s second largest private jet market (behind North America) and accounted for 14 percent of deliveries in 2013. Bombardier’s latest market forecast states that Europe is expected to remain one of the main markets for ...

Avionics Mandates Part 5: What you Should Know about TCAS 7.1

Avionics Mandates Part 5: What you Should Know about TCAS 7.1

AvBuyer Magazine, May 2015 by Ken Elliott

Download a PDF of the article.

Helping you understand avionics advances and related mandates for equipage, Ken Elliot reviews aviation technologies within the NextGen/SESAR architecture, this month focusing on TCAS 7.1.

The midair collision over the Grand Canyon between two airliners in 1956 spurred the collaboration of industry and government in the development of a collision warning system. After a number of years using passive avoidance systems, industry realized the need for a predictive system, involving complimentary avoidance interaction between conflicting aircraft. In other word, if one aircraft decides to avoid another by climbing, the other aircraft needs to correspondingly descend. This necessary evolution eventually became TCAS II, with TCAS I being an advisory-only version of collision avoidance.

While technological advancements flourished, there was still a need for a practical solution that would avoid nuisance alerts in high-de...

Q&A with Guillaume Chamoin

Q&A with Guillaume Chamoin

Guillaume Chamoin, former Aircraft Sales Representative, Jetcraft

Location: Paris, France

How long have you been at Jetcraft?

I have been at Jetcraft since July 2013. I joined when they acquired the ExecuJet Aircraft Trading group.

What are your responsibilities within the global Jetcraft team?

I am in charge of Europe sales alongside with my 2 european colleagues. I work to help buyers find the right aircraft for purchase, and to help sellers find the right buyer for their aircraft.

Describe a typical day or week in your role.

There is no typical day.  Often I am working on a sale which has many parts that include organizing the viewing of an aircraft, negotiating the terms and conditions, and ultimately closing the deal.  If I’m not working on a sale then I may be in meetings with sellers or prospects for potential sales. I update the sellers of Jetcraft’s exclusive listings to keep them updated on any activity.  I also spend time targeting aircraft which mi...

Jetcraft serves industry needs

Jetcraft serves industry needs

As part of Jetcraft’s commitment to the business aviation community we have been busy these last several months on three fronts.

FAA LED Project
Working to make our airspace safer and more accessible

In the latter part of 2014 the FAA formed a special working group representing airports, aircraft certification & safety, lighting and the aviation industry. The working group is addressing the concerns of LEDs currently migrating in to runways and airports all over the world.

Part of this effort is existing and new research centered on the impacts of LEDs on the human eye and how they interact with pilots performing operations at our nation’s airports.

Jetcraft is co-leading a science group that is working closely with flight operations specialists to determine testing that may be required.

How would you characterize the Chinese business aviation sector?

China has the largest mobile phone user base in the world. It also has the largest online shopping economy. China is a dynamic market and shows great potential for private aircraft ownership. Some buyers have never flown before and their first flying experience is in their own private jet or helicopter!

The sector is a bit different from the US or Europe in that the Chinese people never experienced the industrial...
