Cabin Avionics for Aircraft Buyers

Cabin Avionics for Aircraft Buyers

World Aircraft Sales, April 2014

by Ken Elliott

Owner’s interacting with their aircraft focus primarily on the cabin, just as pilots are focused on the cockpit and aircraft performance. For the owner, the cabin becomes a center of experience: their office-in-the-sky, or their in-sky-theater of entertainment. What is common to any owner experience, however, is the expectation of comfort and connectivity while the cabin avionics are intimately intertwined with most aspects of cabin functionality.

With a significant number of aftermarket aircraft available, a buyer is faced with a wealth of variability in cabin equipage, layout and capability. Cabin systems are changing so rapidly in line with other broad appeal electronics from which they are derived. Working through this difficulty, keep in mind the mid-term goals of your flight operation; the minimum equipage required for the operation; and your ability to add-on later. Newer cabin electronics...

Q&A with Fabrice Roger

Q&A with Fabrice Roger

Fabrice Roger, former Sales Director, Jetcraft

Location: Latin America

How long have you been at Jetcraft?

I started with Jetcraft in the summer of 2013, so I am one of the newest recruits here.

What are your responsibilities within the global Jetcraft team?

My role is to continue to develop Jetcraft’s business in Latin America. Local customer support is very important and since business is growing in this region it was crucial to have someone here on the ground to be face to face with clients.

Describe a typical day or week in your role.

There really is no typical day but I do spend a lot of my time travelling, visiting clients and viewing aircraft. I need to be out there with our customers and prospects and to see first hand what is happening in the region. There is no point to doing a deal over the phone, good relationships and the best service comes when you are face to face.

What do you love most above your job?

What I like most is that every day is diff...

Asia: A region of Promise

Asia: A region of Promise

Written by David Dixon, President, Jetcraft Asia

[email protected]

At a recent conference in London, I presented on the subject of business aviation trends in China titled “China - is it slowing down or overhyped.” For this article, I’m going to start where I ended that presentation, expounding on my closing point of why, “Everyone wants a China strategy but everyone needs a regional strategy”.

Watching China Grow

Fifteen years ago no one took China seriously as a market for business aircraft and almost any efforts were often met with incredulity. Fast forward to today, where China is top of the agenda when thinking strategically about Asia. There is good reason for that too, as it offers enormous potential for growth in almost every industry, including business aviation.  Today there are more than 120 privately owned aircraft either based or owned in Hong Kong, as well as approximately another 120 aircraft in mainland China. In dollar value terms, the market...

ADS-B For Business Aircraft

ADS-B For Business Aircraft

What Will It Involve?

World Aircraft Sales, March 2014

by Ken Elliott

Download a PDF of the article.

Much has been written regarding ADS-B, so the focus of this article is Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast (ADSB) for business jets, what that will involve, and where to find the relevant information.

Most business jets today are well equipped with avionics, but are short on real estate to add more. Depending upon where you operate, however, the need to add data com, PBN and ADS-B is a necessary reality.

If your aircraft is new there is a good chance it is adequately equipped for ADS-B and - short of possible software updates - may well be operationally ready at least for ADS-B Out. For aftermarket business jets, however, the readiness for ADS-B is a very different story. ADS-B on the aircraft side touches a number of existing avionic systems, and Table A (see PDF download) highlights those systems and outlines why they are needed.

Because ADS-B requires an STC o...

Aviation Insurance: Are you covered? Are you sure?

Aviation Insurance: Are you covered? Are you sure?

Written by Tom Hague, Wings Insurance Director of Sales

While hull and liability insurance are vital for every aircraft owner, be sure you have the best possible policy for your needs before signing anything. Tom Hauge, Vice President/National Sales Director of Sales for Wings Insurance, shares his expertise in aviation insurance and highlights the small print and limitations you need to be aware of.

The aviation market is unique and when considering insurance, without a doubt, the first step is choosing an insurance broker that really understands the market. When you are insuring an aircraft worth anywhere up to $70 million, you need to be confident that your broker has secured the correct policy for your needs.

Beyond hull insurance, where most claims are made, the amount of liability coverage you go for is of significant consideration. One of the questions I get asked most is “How much liability insurance should I carry?” You can only figure that out once you have cons...

On the ground around the streets of London

On the ground around the streets of London

Whether you have a week, a day, or just a few spare hours in London, be sure to avoid the tourist sites and instead experience some of the city’s great past and delicious traditions.

Writing a guide to London sets itself up to writing a book with everything it has to offer! So to shorten things up a bit, Jetstream’s guide to London focuses on seeking out some of the unique traditions that can still be found in this royal city.

When you think of London, what is the first thing you think of? The red phone boxes? Black taxi cabs? Perhaps good old Fish ‘n’ Chips? Indeed these are some of the most recognized symbols of London that help to attract some of the 15m visitors to the city each year, so lets take a closer look at these and other London qualities.

Riding in Style

The best way to see the city is by jumping in the back of a Hackney Carriage, more commonly known as a Black Cab. But did you know that to become an official London Black Cab driver you have to complete...
