On 20 February 2018, Jetcraft Chairman Jahid Fazal-Karim spoke with Francine Lacqua on Bloomberg Surveillance. Below is a transcript of the interview.

Have you ever fancied owning your own private jet? Now might be the time to buy with the global economy picking up. Broker Jetcraft says supply is back to pre-recession levels and the U.S. tax cuts are also set to benefit buyers worldwide. Joining us now is co-owner of Jetcraft. He is Jahid Fazal-Karim and his company is the worlds biggest international buyer and seller of business aircraft. Over the last 10 years it has facilitated more than 550 transactions worth $10 billion. It has also recently opened an office in London. Jahid, thank you so much for joining us.

Host: So most, or 80%, of what you sell is second hand aircraft. What is the lifespan of alot of these aircraft?

Product Overview

The Global 5000 is an ultra-long range, wide-body business jet with the advantage of having short takeoff and landing performance. The cabin is divided into three zones with optional rear stateroom, and features a large galley, forward and aft lavatories, and a generously sized baggage compartment. Overall it offers comfort, flexibility, and innovation.

As of September 2017, 70% of the Global 5000 aircraft were purchased new by their current owners, the other 30% pre-owned. 8.3% are for sale with the majority of those (89%) under an exclusive broker agreement. When for sale, the average time on the market is 489 days.

Brief History

The Global 5000 is a slightly smaller and faster derivative of the Global Express, which was the second ultra long-range large-cabin business jet produced and started delivering to customers in 1997. The Global 5000 made its maiden flight in March 2003 with FAA and JAA type certification awarded in October 2004. In 2008 Bombardier announced an increased certified gross weight, which permitted increased fuel load and an increased projected maximum range. A total of 221 Global 5000 aircraft have been manufactured with 218 in operation worldwide.

Worldwide Appeal

There are 218 Global 5000 aircraft in operation today. Most of these are wholly owned (204) with 1 in shared and 13 in fractional ownership. 13% are currently leased. North America has the largest percentage of Global 5000 aircraft (43%), followed by Europe (29%), and Asia (25%).

Jetcraft opens first London office

January 29, 2018 (Raleigh, NC) – Jetcraft, the global leader in business aircraft sales and acquisitions, today announces the opening of its first London office through its new UK company, Jetcraft Global (UK) Limited.

The new London base cements Jetcraft’s commitment to the European region and demonstrates its confidence in the UK as a continuing hub of business opportunity.

Chad Anderson, President at Jetcraft, says: “The opening of our London office comes as Jetcraft celebrates another record year — with 93 transactions completed in 2017 – and rounds off a remarkable decade of more than 550 transactions exceeding $10bn in value. Our new London location creates even more ways for us to serve our clients and we are excited about the opportunities it presents.”

Jetcraft’s new office comes at a time of significant growth in resources for the company, with the appointment of four senior sales posts from within the team, including Sean O’Leary, who will take on the role of Sales Director based in the new London office. Additional promotions go to Pat Harvey, Sales Director, North Central United States and Canada; Chris Brenner, Senior Vice President of Sales, Americas; and Pascal Bachmann, Senior Vice President of Sales, EMEA.

How long have you been at your current organization?

I started M&R 11 years ago with another designer, Florent Magnin. Each of us have over 20 years of experience working in design departments of major completion centers and aircraft manufacturers which is a major strength when it comes to designing VVIP aircraft. The organization headquarters is located in Geneva and we have now offices in Basel and Paris.

What are your responsibilities within your organization?

I am co-owner and Senior Design Director at M&R, which means I perform design project management and oversee all design related activities.

Product Overview

The Gulfstream GIV is an updated version of the Gulfstream GIII. It was given a 54-inch cabin stretch (allowing for a 6th window on each side), upgraded engines that are more powerful and fuel efficient than their predecessors, and an aerodynamically and structurally improved wing which allows for additional fuel capacity. Upgraded avionics made it the first business jet to have an entire glass cockpit with an advanced EFIS avionics suite and six color CRT displays.

As of September 2017, 93% of Gulfstream GIV aircraft were purchased pre-owned by their current owners, the other 7% new. 10.1% are for sale with the majority of those (72%) under an exclusive broker agreement. When for sale, the average time on the market is 371 days

Brief History

Design work on the GIV began in early 1983 and the first flight took place on September 19, 1985. The GIV entered into service in 1987 after receiving FAA certification on April 22 of that year. A total of 196 GIV aircraft were manufactured with 179 currently in operation worldwide. It was upgraded to the special purpose GIV-SP version in 1993 and was later re-designated the G400.

Worldwide Appeal

There are 179 Gulfstream GIV aircraft in operation today. Most of these are wholly owned (175) with three in shared and one in fractional ownership. 11% are currently leased. North America has the largest percentage of wholly owned Gulfstream GIV aircraft (86%) followed by Asia (7%).

How long have you been at your current organization?

I started working for ALE in November 2004, 13 years ago. I was 20 years old and undergoing my 2nd year of Industrial Engineering at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City.

What are your responsibilities within your organization?

I’ve always been on the sales / commercial side of the business. Today I run the Preowned aircraft sales & acquisitions business unit (AlePreowned), overseeing Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean, along with our partnership with Jetcraft for that same territory.

Product Overview

The Falcon 7X is a fly-by-wire ultra-long range business jet which flies further and faster than any of its Falcon predecessors. It features a completely new wing design including winglets, which makes the longer range possible.

As of September 2017, 27% of the Falcon 7X aircraft were purchased pre-owned by their current owners, the other 73% new. 7.7% are for sale with the majority of those (67%) under an exclusive broker agreement. When for sale, the average time on the market is 284 days.

Brief History

The Dassault Falcon 7X was first presented to the public at the 2001 Paris Air Show and first flew in May 2005. The type certificate was received in April 2007 from the FAA and EASA and it entered service in June.

Worldwide Appeal

There are 271 Falcon 7X aircraft in operation today. Most of these are wholly owned (267) with 4 in shared ownership. 9.2% are currently leased. Europe has the largest percentage of wholly owned Falcon 7X aircraft (43%), followed by North America (31%) and Asia (16%).

Jetcraft Voted 2017 Best Broker by AsBAA

At the AsBAA Icons of Aviation Awards Charity Gala Dinner on November 10, Jetcraft Asia was bestowed the Best Aircraft Sales Broker award for 2017, making it an unbelievable three years in a row. Presented by the Asian Business Aviation Association (AsBAA), the annual awards are voted on by industry members.

“It is a great honor to receive the prestigious award from AsBAA with the recognition from members and our industry peers in the field of aircraft sales and acquisitions worldwide,” said Jetcraft Asia President, David Dixon. “We do not plan to rest on our laurels.
